Design a Jacket
for Farmers

Farmers spend long hours in the sun, rain, wind, and fields—often without gear designed specifically for their daily needs. From carrying tools to protecting against harsh weather, a good jacket can be more than just clothing— it can be a part of their toolkit.

The Jacket Design Contest is to createa functional, affordable, and farmer-friendly jacket. This is your chance to rethink rural workwear and create something useful for farmers in their everyday work.

Who can participate?

Individuals or Teams can participate

Team members can come from any vocations

Design Brief

Material & Weather Resistance
  • Breathable, lightweight fabric for summer​
  • Water-resistant or quick-dry outer layer for monsoons​
  • Optional inner liner for mild winter insulation​
  • Dust and stain-resistant coating
Comfort & Fit
  • Available in multiple sizes (S–XXL)​
  • Side vents or mesh lining for airflow​
  • Light padding on shoulders for load support (carrying bags or baskets)
​Identity & Branding (Optional)
  • Space for FPO/cooperative logo or embroidered name tag​
  • Flag patch or motivational slogan print (e.g., “Proud to Farm”)
Target Users
  • Small and marginal farmers, field officers, agri-entrepreneurs across India

Utility & Storage
  • Multiple secure, accessible pockets for storing tools, mobile, seeds, etc. Lightweight, easy to wear​
  • Hidden or inner safety pocket for valuables.
Safety & Visibility
  • Reflective strips for early morning/evening work.​
  • High-contrast trims or colors (khaki, green, or indigo blue)
Sustainability
  • Use of durable, recyclable fabric​
  • Local production to support rural employment
Success Metrics
  • Cost-effective (Target price: ₹400–₹700)​
  • Washable, minimum 12-month durability​
  • Widely accepted by farmers across 5–6 states.

All the award winning entries will be displayed on screen during KISAN Exhibition. 

Terms and conditions

1. Eligibility
  • The contest is open to all. (Individual or team)

  • Participants may submit multiple entries, provided that each entry is submitted under a separate registration.

2. Submission Requirements
  • Design Sketches or Renderings (front/back/side views)

  • Design Brief:

    • Description of materials and functionality

    • Why it's suitable for farmers

    • Estimated cost per unit

  • Optional: Prototype photos or mock-up with model

3. Video Submission
  • Shortlisted entries (to be announced on 20th Sept) can submit a 90-second video presentation explaining their design. The video should be in MP4 format with a 9:16 aspect ratio, 24 frames per second.

  • Language for video should be Marathi or English (Marathi subtitles in case of English audio and vice versa).

4. Open Access through Creative Commons
  • All designs submitted as part of the KISAN Design Quest will be made available under a Creative Commons license, allowing them to be freely shared, adapted, and used by the farming community.

  • This approach ensures that your ideas can create real impact on the ground — helping farmers, makers, and innovators build upon them — while credit is always given to the original creators.

  • By participating, you agree to share your design under this license, contributing to an open-source movement for rural innovation.

5. Evaluation Criteria
  • Innovation & Originality (30%)

  • Aesthetic & Functionality (25%)

  • Impact & Relevance (25%)

  • Sustainability/ Ethics Consideration (15%)

  • Execution Quality/ Attention to details (5%)

6. General Terms
  • By entering, participants agree to abide by these terms.

  • Registration fee is non-refundable amount.

  • Any submission found to be plagiarized will be disqualified.

  • The organizers reserve the right to modify or cancel the contest if necessary.

  • Judges' decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
